The Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Investment, and Finance and the Provincial Statistics Office assess productivity in Binh Giang district

The Hai Duong Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Planning and Investment, and Finance and the Provincial Statistics Office on October 4 checked and assessed the productivity of autumn rice in nine districts of the province.

Farmers planted this autumn crop posthaste, and local inundation due to many heavy rains at the beginning of the crop led to the re-cultivation of nearly 2,000 ha of rice.

However, thanks to active care of farmers and favorable weather at the end of the crop, rice grew well and there were not many pestilent insects.

The provincial rice productivity is estimated at 57 quintals/ ha, up nearly 11 quintals/ ha and 1 quintal/ ha over the 2017 and 2016 autumn crops, respectively.

Localities likely to record high rice productivity are Kinh Mon (62 quintals/ ha), Thanh Mien (59 quintals/ ha), Binh Giang (58 quintals/ ha), etc.

To date, close to 15,000 ha of autumn rice in the province have been harvested, equivalent to 25% of the cultivated area, concentrated in the districts of Thanh Mien, Kinh Mon, Nam Sach, etc.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development asked district, provincial town, and city authorities to direct farmers to gather machines and quickly harvest ripe rice to clear land for winter crops.

Regarding late autumn crops, it is necessary to zone areas seriously damaged by pestilent insects for concentrated care and timely spraying to minimize damage.
