Located on the economic corridor of Lao Cai – Ha Noi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh and adjacent to the Tonkin Gulf economic belt, Hai Duong city has great advantages in exchanging and trading with Ha Noi capital, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, and other localities in the Northern delta.
This is the center of economic growth and an urban area that plays an important role in promoting the provincial economic development.
Bringing such advantages into play, over the past years, the Party, authorities, and residents of Hai Duong city have focused on exploiting all resources, boosting economic development, and creating potential in building an increasingly prosperous city.
With premises having been achieved since the city was recognized as a 2nd-class urban area (2009), the Party, authorities, and residents of Hai Duong city have defined a higher target and strived to take the city to a new height and turn it into a dynamic and sustainably developing city.
The city authorities have focused on promoting economic development and actively reformed administrative procedures to create a favorable environment to lure projects with large investments and modern technology.
Over the past years, the values of industrial production – construction and exports have averagely increased by 14.1% and 15.4% each year, respectively.
Hai Duong has three industrial parks, namely Dai An, Nam Sach, and An Phat high technology, and six industrial clusters, consisting of Cam Thuong, West Ngo Quyen, Viet Hoa, Ba Hang, Ngoc Son, and Thach Khoi – Gia Xuyen. The occupancy rates of the industrial parks and clusters are high.
Enterprises in the industrial parks and clusters have contributed to boosting production and business and become key factors for the city's economic development.
There are about 5,000 active businesses in the city, including 76 FDI enterprises from countries and territories with high economic development levels like Europe, the US, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, and Canada.
The production of hi-tech and electrical products, electronic components, automobiles, garments, textiles, and precision mechanical equipment, mechanics, etc. are main industries.
The enterprises have created high added values, made great contributions to the city's economic growth, and created stable jobs and incomes for tens of thousands of laborers.
Handicraft, small industry, and trade villages develop stably. Duc Minh and Nguyen Xa carpentry villages and Lo Cuong noodle village have continued to apply technology to production, diversify designs, and improve product quality to meet customers' requirements.
The growth rate of trade and services is even higher than that of industry, averaging 16%/ year. Many industries post fairly high growth rates, such as banking, insurance, tourism, hoteling, etc.
At present, there are 11 supermarkets in the city. The quantity and types of goods are diverse with high quality. Markets operate stably. Aside from traditional retail stores, fast-growing convenience ones have satisfied people's need of buying essential goods for life.
In the field of agriculture, product value per one hectare of farming and aquaculture land always rises fairly high with an average growth rate of 5.1%/ year.
Over the past years, the municipal agriculture has continued to change positively. The agricultural structure was shifted towards gradually increasing the proportion of animal husbandry and services. A number of concentrated production regions and many links between production and consumption of products were built, having a part in heightening product quality and competitiveness in the market. Attention was paid to developing numerous plants and animals with high economic value.
Types of farm produce are diverse, many of which have high economic value, such as tomatoes, flowers, ornamental plants, vegetables, etc.
Since 2015, the average economic growth rate of Hai Duong city has been 13.6%/ year. With the development of economy, the city has conditions to concentrate resources on building infrastructure and strengthening urban and architectural planning management in association with embellishment and construction of a civilized urban area.
Together with adjusting the general planning for Hai Duong city until 2030 with a vision to 2050, the city authorities have finished making an urban development program and issued urban management regulations towards turning Hai Duong city into a modern and sustainable urban area.
For 10 years since the 2nd-class urban recognition, the Party and people of Hai Duong city have ceaselessly endeavored to meet the criteria of a 1st-class urban area.
