95 players attend 2018 Chess Tournament for Hai Duong Newspaper Cup

The 6th Teenagers and Children's Chess Tournament for Hai Duong Newspaper Cup kicked off on August 1 morning at the provincial Children's House.

The tournament is co-organized by the Hai Duong Newspaper, the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, and the Department of Education and Training and funded by Prudential Vietnam Assurance Private Ltd.

This year, apart from medals and awards, players will be given certificates by the Department of Education and Training as one of bases to prioritize pupils in assessing their training, learning, and emulation processes.

The chess tournament lured the largest number of players ever (95). The players are from nine units, namely Hai Duong city, Chi Linh provincial town, Kim Thanh and Ninh Giang districts, Kids House Chess Club (Hai Duong city), the provincial Children's House, the provincial Gymnasium, Sao Do Chess Club, and Sun Club (Chi Linh).

The players are competing in individual and team events for five age groups: under 6 - 7, 8 - 9, 10 - 11, 12 - 13, and 14 - 15.

On the first day of this year's tournament, the competitors played three matches in a tense and thorny competitive atmosphere.

Many players won all matches like Nguyen Sy Hai (Sun Club) in the 6 - 7 aged boy group, Nguyen Dinh Bao Khang (Chi Linh) in the 8 - 9 aged boy group, Nguyen Anh Quan (Sao Do Chess Club) in the 10 - 11 aged boy group, Nguyen Hoang Khoi (Kids House Chess Club) in the 12 - 13 aged boy group, Nguyen Mai Huong (Chi Linh) in the 6 - 7 aged girl group, Nguyen Phuong Anh (Sao Do Chess Club) in the 8 - 9 aged girl group, etc.

The 4th, 5th, and 6th matches of the tournament are taking place today (August 2).

The tournament is to end on August 3.
